Located in the window of busy downtown commercial skyscraper, Constraints was a site-specific response to an extreme situation in downtown Pittsburgh architecture: storefronts are either gentrified or derelict.  We were invited by the Three Rivers Arts Festival to create a piece for the First Night festival in a storefront of an 80’s postmodern skyscraper.

Our response included the installation of hundreds of pieces of parallel white acrylic, separating the gallery from the street.  The result was subtle: the motion inside the building and outside on the street was conflated in a series of isolating, yet visually complex, reflective mini-sequences: the activity of the business people from inside the building was overlaid with workers patiently waiting in the snow covered bus stop outside.
